Val d’Orcia, now the most sought-after and the most photographed site in Tuscany (“The English Patient” landscapes and the “Under the Tuscan sun’s ” cover picture just to quote the most popular).
This valley was renowned since the end of the first millennium for being an important stage on the Via Francigena, the great medieval road from France to Rome that led pilgrims to the heart of Christianity. More than twenty castles and rest houses (ospedali) crowned the valley bordering the road. One of them, named Bounriposo («Good rest») has become now a vacation house for lovers of Val d’Orcia.

Villa Sanatelli, that was found by the actual owners as a ruined peasant’s house, recommended itself not only on account of its size, but also the sense of history in the different layers that could be easily seen (during the restoration some bricks were found dated 1560). In restoring it to it’s final transformation into a comfortable family house in the country, the owners’ main aim has been to respect and point out the various periods of the building, thus avoiding the tendency, to unify buildings with fake ‘rustic’ interiors. Rooms with beamed ceilings are well sized and opened to the most exciting views of clay hills, backed wheat fields and gorse thickets, clay hillocks and cypress trees.

Ground level
•Very large (12x7 meters) double living room with a handsome stone fireplace at one end. Two sets of double doors open directly onto the broad front terrace and pergola.
•Dining room with double doors opening to the front patio and rear garden. Dining tables can accommodate up to 20 persons.
•Traditional styled country kitchen, spacious and well equipped (double 5+5 fires gas stove, two 90 cm ovens) with large stone counter top and sink. Adjacent two room pantry with dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, double fridge with icemaker. Double doors lead directly to the patio.

•Indian bedroom: Neoclassical double wooden bed, Indian XIXth century prints, en suite bathroom with walk-in shower.
•Iron X twin bedroom: two forged XIXth century iron frame beds (French size), en suite bathroom with tub. Double door opens to terrace and rose trimmed pergola
•Dependence: bedroom 1, double king with ensuite bathroom (tub), second twin (antique iron beds) and sofa-bed, en suite shower bathroom. Double door opens to rear garden.

Upper level
•Open stone staircase to large “winter” living/dining room, previously the peasant’s communal room. Huge hearth (the original “focolare”) dominates the wall. On the opposite wall a fresco in XVth century style representing Val d’Orcia and it’s castles. Leather club chairs and sofa to enjoy the fireplace in cool spring and autumn evenings. Large 10 seats dining table and old stone sink with working spigot.
•Small but fully equipped hidden kitchen.
•Owner’s private apartment: expansive bedroom (super king) two seats sofa, two armchairs, large working table, private balcony and open stone staircase leading to the rear garden; adjacent dressing room with large antique armadio, dresser and daybed; ensuite bathroom with tub, walk-in shower and dressing table.
•Twin arrow bedroom: two Neoclassical iron beds (French), two antique cupboards, en suite bathroom with double sink and tub.
•Chinese twin bedroom, en suite bathroom with walk-in shower, built-in cupboard.
•Tortiglioni bedroom: double antique spiral poster bed and en suite bath (tub).
