Approached by a cypress avenue beyond a 400m.well maintained track, this much loved stone and glass villa is in a wonderful position, on its own little hilltop in the middle of the owners’ 400-hectare estate. With 160 hectares of surrounding land, with lawns, gardens and trees, the house commands panoramic views of classic unspoiled Tuscan landscape.

Dotted with castles, villages, farmhouses and vineyards the views fold away forever. Richard Neutra, who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, designed this prestigious modern house for the Italian-American owner of a large vineyard and agricultural estate about 40 years ago. The house faces west and enjoys unforgettable sunsets from inside and outside. The impression one has of the house from the outside, with its sharp long shapes intersected with stone columns, and glass, belies the comfort and pleasure of the interior, which is furnished with Tuscan antiques and contemporary classics.

Accommodation
On two floors, with a floor area of about 600 metres the house has huge floor to ceiling sliding windows. The ground floor has a large, open plan entrance, living room, dining room and study. There is a separate breakfast room, a kitchen, a WC and washbasin, a pantry with two fridges and a freezer, a storeroom and a laundry room. An open staircase leads to a sitting room/library.

The bedrooms lead off a horseshoe shaped corridor. The master double bedroom suite has a single bed in the dressing room and a bathroom with separate shower stall. This suite has a wide terrace also leading to a twin bedroom with en suite bathroom and separate shower stall. A third double bedroom shares a bathroom with a twin bedroom. The fifth bedroom, a double or twin, has its own bathroom. A second staircase to the bedroom floor from the garage also has access to the laundry room. The caretakers live in a separate flat next to the garage, which connects to the house.

The swimming pool, in a secluded area on the north side of the house, has a tall hedge on two sides, and terracotta and lawns on the other, has views through the owners’ vineyards. The bi-lingual owners who live a km. away, are an art historian and professional cook and a renowned photographer. Very helpful and knowledgeable, this talented couple will organise tours, excursions, balloon and horse rides, cook exquisite meals and arrange innumerable things to make your holiday an unforgettable pleasure.
